The Importance of Developing Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs
It should be the role of SMEs with all faults received appreciation from the government to make policy pro to SMEs. Policies that really felt directly by SMEs, not just a rhetoric that has always been the political winds of heaven and commodities when they want to get power.
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has proven to be the backbone of our nation's economy, history proves when the storm crisis that hit Indonesia in out in 1998, the company conglomerate falling one by one, but SMEs are able to survive and provide a great contribution to the nation's economic rescue.
Build SMEs should be the absolute choice for the government both at central and local levels. Build independence SMEs is an obligation, how many reasons and that requires us to be a reference implementation.
In the Quran Surat 59 verse 7, God forbid the passage of property (capital) only among the rich alone. From this verse we learn that economic activity should involve the active participation of a group of middle-class society, which in fact is the majority of the population in a country.
Prophet Muhammad in a his saying, stating that you will be helped by the poor because of you, then we have an obligation to help the weak in this country by developing SMEs together. According to Imam Hasan al-Bana (Islamic scholars) in his discussion of economic reform in Islam, small and medium enterprises will be able to help provide productive employment for poor families, and then will minimize the level of poverty that exists.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus also emphasized that wage employment is not the way `bahagia` in reducing poverty, but to develop their own business (read: have their own business even though the level of SMEs) more have the potential to develop one's asset base.
A study conducted by Michigan State University, USA, in some countries, it is confirmed that SMEs have contributed significantly invaluable in creating jobs and increasing incomes (M Umer Chapra in Islam and Economic Development). SME industry in Japan has been able to produce 50% of the total industrial output, and absorb 75% of the labor force Japan. Similarly, the retail business, which is 75 percent of the business is managed by the family store that is protected by law.
In Germany, the awareness to develop small and medium businesses greater, because it turns out domestic industry is able to play a significant role in the German economy.
What about the condition of SMEs in Indonesia, I am sure we are all sad to see the lack of government attention to SMEs, for it is time to be bold convey to the government at the center and in the region, the importance of building SMEs.
